My name is Jeff Lye and i am the ALCP candidate for Waitakere City. I am a 45 yr young father of three, grandfather of one and been with my current partner for the past eight yrs. I have spent most of my working life driving trucks and doing furniture removals but have tried my hand at various other tasks with my latest being politics and as an extra on Outrageous fortune and Shortland street. After a brief stay in hospital in 2008 I was both appalled and disgusted with the way in which patients, particularly the elderly, were treated. At first i was annoyed with the staff but then realised it was the system and not their fault at all. I then remembered that I too have elderly relatives that fall into the baby boom era and decided something has to be done or someone has to do something. As I started researching it soon came to my attention that the only political party that's policies truely were for the people of New Zealand were those of the """AOTEAROA LEGALISE CANNABIS PARTY''''' but they lacked representation. In 2008 Kevin O'connell our party president came up from the deep south to stand in Auckland Central and represent the 300,000+ cannabis users Auckland has. I stood as a list candidate and have been involved with the party ever since. In 2011 I aim to do well if not win the candidacy in Waitakere. There are an estimated 25,000+ cannabis users in West Auckland and 100's of pro cannabis non users so one would think getting 10,000 votes shouldn't be too dificult aye. For a democratic society the people don't get a say and we want to change that. If elected into parliament I personally would push for dropping GST to 10% remember it is bound to go up to 15% in the 2010 budget, revamping the health justice, ACC and benefit systems, redirecting monies to sectors where needed and this is achievable by legalising and commercialising the cultivation of cannabis.
